MAMAJAMAS

The Mamajamas were originally formed back in 1994 by the brothers Thompson. Majorly influenced by The Stooges, Nirvana and Dirk Wears White Sox era Adam and the Ants, the band were famed for their bass driven manic live power onslaught, their hi-octaine set usually ended with at least one badly wounded guitar! This incarnation survived numerous line-up changes, releasing 5 singles (the first being recorded at the now famous Toe Rag studios and engineered by Liam Watson) plus an album looking for a trend, whilst courting the interest of former Kinks Manager Larry Page. Until finally calling it a day in October 1999, following a momentous gig with the Damned’s Captain Sensible and then drummer Spike at the Widemouth Surf club, Cornwall due to the departure of long-time drummer Chimpy Chasmo.

However not down for long with new drummer John Merino in tow, the Jamas returned in 2001 with two quick fire singles and album Not in Season, during a 'mad year' of frenetic gigging largely at Camdens Barfly, with support roles from the Bull and Gate, Kentish Town and Kings Head in Fulham only to split for good following a headline spot with Kenisis in December of the same year.

That seemed to be that, before Ponyland records overhead said Not in Season album at a party and decided to sign the Glam Grungers there and then, sparking the Thompson brothers back into life and culminating in the re-issue of the album. This is not all however, as the band were back in the studio in July 05 to record their first new material in 4 years in the shape of the play harder play faster ep, together with the bands singles album 1995-2005.
